The Pilikula Golf Course at Mangalore is now fully operational and ready for use by golfers. Set in an area of 35 acres of undulating & scenic land in the midst of sylvan surroundings the natural topography and greenery has been preserved. For the present only nine fairways and nine browns, with a total yardage of about 2800 yards, have been laid traversing the hills and the dales.
With more area available it will be readily possible in due course of time to develop a full 18 hole course. With the river nearby, there is an excellent source of water.
Gradually the browns will be converted into regulation greens and simultaneously the fairways will also be further developed and improved.
The golf course has great potential and should turn out into a top class facility, which Mangalore can be proud of. Pilikula is only 12 kms from the centre of the city and it takes just a 25 minutes drive to get there. A golf hut has already been constructed in the middle of the course. The adjoining park with well laid out gardens, wild life sanctuary and a lake with boating facilities, is an ideal location for a family outing.
Depending on the response from the members it is proposed to bring a golf coach to coach prospective golfers. A few second hand golf sets and practice balls would also be made available.
Golf is one of the most popular sports in almost all the cities in our country and abroad and we are confident of getting a good response from the sports loving public of this city. This is a game both for men and ladies - young and old and not -so-old too. You are welcome to visit the course any time you feel like it, to see for yourself the progress that has been made.
