Mangaloreans in Qatar and Bahrain can heave a big sigh of relief, especially those who were eagerly waiting to fly on the maiden flight from both Qatar and Bahrain to Mangalore.
The first inaugural flight will take off as per the scheduled date 25th March 2007 (Sunday). According to our team member in Doha Mr Iqbal Manna who is in constant touch with the Air India country Manager Doha, that the counter Reservations/bookings in Doha shall open only in Air India main office located near Sana Round from Tuesday 20th March 2007 onwards. His Excellency Dr. George Joseph, Indian Ambassador to Qatar, will inaugurate the maiden flight at the departure section at 11AM on 25th March 2007. Prominent members from Karnataka Expatriate Community, ICC & ICBF members will also attend the inaugural function.
Updates from Bahrain
According to D. Debesh, Air India country Manager for Bahrain and Jordan, and Mr Mohan Kutty Manager Y.B.A. Kanoo (Air India local sponsor), the inaugural celebration will be held in co-ordination with Kannada Sangha and Civial aviation Affairs(CAA). Mr Debesh has also informed that, there are repairs to the runway in progress in Bahrain which could have a temporary reschedulement of timings of landing and take offs. The actual timings will be known in a couple of days.
His Excellency Mr Balakrishna Shetty, Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, who is also a Mangalorean himself, is expected to travel to Bahrain from Mangalore in the maiden flight since he is already in India on a official visit.
Prominent Mangaloreans in Bahrain including Mr Rajkumar president of Kannada Sangha, Mr Shantaram Shetty, K.S. Razak, Managing Director, Metalco Skip Services and KMK Est etc will be traveling in the maiden flight.

The online bookings for the Direct Flight to Doha/Bahrain from Mangalore on March 25th has opened today.
