It was one of those rare occasions wherein people from all walks of life and faiths came together to spread the message of peace, harmony and friendship. There were businessmen; there were educationists, religious leaders, politicians, students and few journalists to capture those moments of joy and brotherhood.
The occasion was a Iftar party hosted by the Yenepoya University and the U.S. Consulate, Chennai, here at the hotel gateway today September 2, 2009.
Scott Woodard, political and economic officer of the U.S. Consulate speaking on the occasion said that United States was committed to building a world that was more peaceful and secure. "That is why we are responsibly ending the war in Iraq and isolating violent extremists while empowering people in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan," he said. He lauded the rich Islamic heritage wherein families and friends were coming together each evening of Ramadan to celebrate their devotion, faith and empathy for the less fortunate.
