Mangalore City Corporation will undertake a disconnection drive of consumers who are yet to pay their water dues after a fortnight. A press release from G V Rajashekar, executive engineer here on Tuesday stated only 40% of the around 70,000 consumers had thus far paid their water dues, and the rest were yet to do so. The city corporation will not only commence a disconnection drive against errant consumers, but also take legal steps to recover the same from them, the release stated.
Rajashekar, in a separate release stated the civic body would lodge criminal cases against people who despite a recent disconnection drive launched by the officials have again tapped into the main 18-MGD line supplying water to the city from its reservoir at Thumbay and are illegally obtaining water supply. A few villagers residing en route the main pipeline had illegally tapped into the main water supply line resulting in disruption in water supply and reduced inflow of water to the main treatment plant at Bendorewell.
