National Level Open Karate Championship - 2009 concludes

The National Level Open Karate Championship - 2009 concluded today October 4, 2009 with the closing ceremony at 6 p.m at Nehru Maidan. The Morgan's Eshwar Kateel's Students walked away with the champion’s trophy in Men’s category while Indian School of Karate lifted champion’s trophy in women’s section. Prizes were distributed to all the winners of the first round on this occasion.

Mr. Abayachandra Jain, M.L.A., Chief whip, Karnataka State, was honoured by Mr. Sadananda Shetty. Mr. Abhayachandra Jain lauding Mr. Sadananda Shetty’s efforts in organizing sports events in Mangalore said that, Mr Shetty’s contribution to the field of sports in Mangalore is commendable. “Today if any sport is alive in Mangalore then its because of Mr. Sadananda's tireless efforts and his dedication towards the Karate federation as well other sports.”

Mr. Ramanath Rai who spoke on this occasion also appreciated Mr. Sadananda Shetty’s contributions to sports. He called on the government and district administration to encourage and organize more such events.

More than 1000 participants took part in the two-day event, out of which over 200 participants walked away with prizes today.

Mr. Nalin Kumar who also spoke on this occasion suggested education authorities to support and promote sports and to make karate classes mandatory in every school. Mr. Devanand Shetty, Managing Director, Dixi Shipping, Mr. B.R.Bhat, General Manager, Corporation Bank, Mr. Ganesh Karnik, Mr. Nagraj Shetty, Chairman, Karavali Development Board, Mr. Stephen Mendes. Mr. Laxmikanth K. were honooured with shawl and memento by Mr. Sadananda Shetty.

Mr. Ponnuraj , IAS Deputy Commissioner of Mangalore who was present on the occasion was also honored by Mr. Sadananda Shetty on behalf of the Dakshina Kannada Karate Federation (R).

Vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Laxmikanth K. Grand Master General Secretary of DKKF. The entire programme was compeered by Mr. Agnel Rodrigues.
