‘Save Environment’

02 October 2009

The Big 92.7 FM radio station network plans to campaign for the cause of the environment by organizing a radio marathon on Friday October 2 with the slogan ‘Save Environment’.

The marathon will be on air on Friday from 7 am and continue till 12 pm and aims to receive 9,270 SMSes in support of saving the environment. The marathon will mainly focus on environmental issues like water conservation, power conservation, air pollution, saving the trees, and preserving the greenery.

Radio jockey Avinash, who will conduct the marathon from the city’s radio station said, “I hope listeners will join in this marathon to save the environment by calling in besides sending SMS. This is an attempt to create social awareness over a local environmental issue”.

“We construct buildings and industries to develop the city. Along with development, we have to take care of the environment. The issue in this marathon is as to what support we can give to save the environment”, he said adding that the term ‘environment’ is being used in the broader sense which includes limited use of water, switching off lights when not required, and the like.

“The marathon show will have songs interspersed with calls and SMSes from listeners”, said Avinash. “Two songs will be played back-to-back, and in that time I will finish my lunch or other food”, he added.

Avinash who hails from Udupi had worked for local television channels before joining BIG FM. “I had an idea to do something like this for a while and now our company has offered this challenge. The company is conducting this marathon nationwide in 44 stations”, he said.

Avinash is known for his evening programme ‘Song Booth’. Parle-G will sponsor this event across the BIG 92.7 FM radio stations.
