Poompuhar “Craft Mela” inaugurated

V Ponnuraj IAS, Deputy Commissioner, D K District Inaugurated Craft Mela of Poompuar organized by The Tamilnadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd at Hotel Woodlands Mangalore, Thursday, 1st October, 2009.

Addressing the media persons after the inauguration V Ponnuraj said, “These are the traditional product displayed by the government of Tamilnadu. Many of the products are bought from the river side and can be usable as medicinal purposes in a low budget. Most of the things can be used as show case items and some can be kept in temple for worshiping purposes too. Statues are made from Pancha Loha (five types of metal) are very useful in worshiping places. These are the products by the own Indians by using traditional system by governmental empowerment plans, he added.

Craft Mela will be exhibiting and selling Bronze Icons, wood carvings, brass lamps, tanjore art plates, tanjore paintings, clay, rose wood furniture’s, rose wood and teak wood pooja mandapams, Kashmir wooden articles, jute products, sea shells, fashion jewelery, Jaipur paintings, leather articles, agarbathies, Madurai, Varanasi, Luknow chikkan sareen, Rajasthan bed spreads, chudidhars and many more item’s .
