T-20 Cricket now in Mangalore!

The Dakshina Kannada District Cricket Association (DKCA) has announced the DKCA cup T-20 Cricket Tournament 2009, which will be played at Nehru Maidan between 8th October to 11th October. The finals will be held on Sunday. The tournament will be inaugurated by Mr. V.Ponnuraj Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

Addressing a press conference here today office bearers of the DKCA told that the main objective of the tournament was to revitalize Cricket in this region. The tournament was an ideal platform for the cricket teams of the district to prove their mettle and also for the budding talents to find recognition and patronage for their future growth in the field of Cricket.

A total of 31 clubs have registered for the tournament. The event has been organised as per international standards and the matches will be played in the Twenty over format.

All leagues matches will be in daylight, while the Knock out fixtures will be played day and night format under floodlight. Spectator entry will be free. The DKCA expects a crowd of over 10,000 spectators for the finals. The conveners stated that this was the largest cricketing extravaganza to be held in Mangalore in the recent years.

The league matches will be held from 8th October to 11 October while the Knock out matches will be held from 3rd November to 6th November with an average of 2 matches per day. Quarter finals will be held on 7th and 8th November with three fixtures each for the two quarter finals, while the semi finals will be played on 9th November in partly day light and partly floodlit. On 10th November an exhibition match between the Mangalore United and the finalists will be played. The final will be played on 11th November Sunday followed by a gala valedictory function.
