MITians flew high with NAL by their side at the Aerofest 2009 here on Thursday, conducted by the National Aerospace Laboratories and Manipal Institute of Technology at Manipal University.
The three-day show was inaugurated by the registrar of the university, G K Prabhu. The director of MIT Brig Somnath Mishra and the joint director of MIT, R S Aithal speaking to mediapersons later, stressed on the need for such aerofests with MIT being a part of it. Highlighting the role of engineers, Muthkavi of NAL said, aerospace research is an interdisciplinary field and students from other branches can also be a part of it. He pointed out that this fest is an attempt to create awareness among the youth regarding the scope and challenges in the aviation sector.
He also expressed his interest in a joint collaboration with MIT for the benefit of students. With the stunning display of technology at the quadrangle ranging from Jaguar and the MAVS to the super computing architecture with the flosolver hardware, NAL have proved heir technical prowess in a big way.
This year's fest is the continuation of the series of aerofests with the previous one held at Malpe. Associate director (student welfare) AM Chincholkar, Giriraj and Muthkavi of NAL were also present.
