The urban development department has accorded a conditional approval for the city''s master plan 2. The master plan spells out a plan of action anticipating the city''s growth in 2021 and an estimated population of 10.75-lakh as against the present 6.46-lakh. It is formulated as per the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961 and broadly based on the analysis of socio-economic needs of the local planning area, informed Dr B Madhav Bhandary, chairman Muda.
Bhandary was explaining the Master Plan to the media in a press conference which was held at conference hall, MUDA premise on Wednesday 15th October 2009.
Features of Master Plan
Out of 30,600 hectares available under Mangalore local planning area, 20,700.30 hecatres has been earmarked for the total urbanization process. Of this, 11,317.59 hectares (46.66 %) has been set aside for residential purpose, 892.97 hectares for commercial (3.68%), 2,790.11 hectares industrial (11.51%), public and semi-public purpose 1,047.64 hectares (4.32 %), parks 2,005.74 hectares (8.27%), transport 2,629.48 hectares (10.84%), an 45.80 hectares for public use (0.19 %).
The plan proposed 45 metre width for all National highways, and 45 metre width ring roads are on the card. The ring road starts from Kotekar Beeri, which moving towards Deralakatte, Belma, Ambla Mogaru, Adyar, Neermarga, Thiruvail, Moodushedde, padushedde, Marakada, Kenjaru, Thokuru, Bala abd through Idya villages it connects to NH17, NH 48 and NH 13.
