‘Special Operation Squad’

The district police have formed a special team called ‘Special Operation Squad’ to deal with communal violence and other similar incidents that disturb law and order.

The team participated in the passing out parade of the 12th batch of armed police trainees held on the Police Maidan at district police headquarters on Monday October 12.

Comprising of 24 personnel, the special squad is headed by sub-inspector Raghavendra and will report directly to the superintendent of police.

Sub-inspector Raghavendra said that it is a squad specially trained for nearly three months. Their uniforms will be black in colour to distinguish them from the other policemen. The team members are from the District Armed Reserve (DAR) police department.

District-in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar was the chief guest at the parade. He said that Dharmasthala, Punjalakatte, and Kateel police outposts in the district will soon be upgraded to full-fledged police stations.

Palemar added that the government is planning to provide 16 acres of land in the district for the construction of a police training institute.

Gopal B Hosur, inspector general of police (western range), superintendent of police Dr Subrahmanyeswara Rao, and other officials from the police department were present on the occasion.
