Setting aside the tradition of celebrating Gandhi Jayanti with flag hoisting, offering tributes and delivering lectures, the Jana Shikshana Trust, a non-government organization (NGO) has come out with plans to celebrate the occasion in a unique way.
In a release, the trust trustees Krishna Moolaya and Sheena Shetty stated the trust would pay a fitting tribute to Mahatma by setting in motion the tribal empowerment programmes under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Project (NREGP) on October 2. On the day, trust members, representatives of the panchayatraj institutes and the Apna Desh volunteers will visit different Koraga community colonies and kickstart development works on their lands.
The Koraga families, who have been selected under NREGP, will be given coconut and other fruit saplings and training imparted on how to develop the garden.
The trust has begun contacting the Koraga community members and creating awareness among them regarding the benefits of NREGP and how to avail them. The trust has played a key role in the success of the literacy campaign in the district and has been selected as the nodal agency by Capart, the agency of the Union rural development ministry.
