33/11 kv sub station inaugrated

24 September 2009

"State Government will appoint 1,234 engineers to the ESCOMS in the State to overcome the manpower crunch in ESCOMS," said Minister for Power K S Eshwarappa after inaugurating the 33/11 kv sub station, 33 kv underground cable works and Human Resource Development and transmission centre at Kadri on Tuesday 22nd September 2009.

Addressing the gathering, Eshwarappa said that these engineers will be appointed purely on merit basis as appointment through KPSC will take long time. The engineers will not have to write tests and go through interviews while they will be absorbed purely on the basis of their marks.

Informing that Gundya and Yenmaras have got provisional license, he said that he does not understand why Jayaram Ramesh, who used to be for setting up of Thadadi project is now opposing Gundya and Yenmaras projects. “How can one’s stand change with portfolio?” he questioned.

He said that State Government is determined to provide quality electricity supply to the people of the State and in 2 years the State government will set an example by providing 24 hours of power supply under its Niranthara Jyoti project.

Mayor Shanker Bhat said that MCC is taking up concrete works and Mescom has been creating problems by not co-operating with MCC to remove the undergound cable lines. He said that they have been asking for huge sum of money for removing the lines, failing which they have warned to leave the live wires as it is so that MCC cannot proceed with the works. He urged the minister to see to it that the cost is borne by the Ministry itself so that MCC can carry on developmental works faster.

Unit at Tannirbavi

Later, addressing a news conference, responding to a query on BJP’s nod to supply drinking water to Nagarjuna Power Project coal storage plant at Tannirbavi, Eshwarappa said that the issue needs to be taken with some degree of adjustments.

“Congress leader Veerappa Moily had congratulated us for the attempts we have been doing to overcome power crisis in the State. In such a case, if some Congress corporators have problems with the decision, then their seniors will explain to them, we need not speak to them about it,” said Eshwarappa.
