DYFI protests at wenlock hospital

29 September 2009

Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a demonstration in front of the Government Wenlock Hospital here on Friday.

They were protesting against the hospital management for introducing user charges for various medical services for the past one month.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Muneer Katipalla, president, district unit of the DYFI, said the hospital had been providing free medical services to all people for the past many decades.

People from the neighbouring districts were also its beneficiaries. Now the hospital has divided the patients into two groups – below poverty line (BPL) and above poverty line (APL) during admission. Patients holding BPL cards continued to get free services whereas patients from APL families were asked to pay user charges.

The DYFI opposed this saying the Government had followed improper methods to differentiate families as BPL and APL.
