SI faces atrocity charges on 3 youths

The Mangalore Rural (Kankanady ) Sub-Inspector Prakash has been accused of committing atrocities on three youths after detaining them illegally in the station. It is learnt the three youth were detained to gather clues regarding the accused in the Bantwal shootout case.

The youth who were subject to atrocities have been identified as Siddique (31) of Kallaup near Ullal, Farooq (26) of Derlakatte and Radique (26), of Ullal. They are presently undergoing treatment at the Sahara Hospital at Tokkottu.

According to Siddique, one of the victims, the three along with Iqbal and Basheer were arrested from near a textile shop at Tokkottu by the SI Prakash and his staff. No sooner the vehicle carrying them crossed Netravathi Bridge, the youth were blindfolded and then taken to an isolated house. There they were shown a photograph of a youth and were asked to reveal details about the youth. Despite them pleading ignorance, the cops made them stand in their underwear and thrashed them. After placing them under house arrest for three days, they were taken to Balmatta on Sunday night and let free after placing a Rs 100 note in their hands.

Meanwhile, SP Dr Subrahmanyeshwara Rao reacting to this case involving an officer who is also the sub-inspector in the SP’s special squad, said the SI had informed him of taking into custody a few youth to help gather clues of an accused in the shootout reported at Baliga Jewellery at Bantwal. “ I had instructed the officer to let the youth free after interrogation, I am not aware that they were placed under detention for three days, “ the SP said and assured an investigation into the allegation.
