Eid Celebrations

Eid ul-Fitr, commonly known as Eid, is celebrated at Dakshina Kannada district with great religious fervour and joy on Monday 21st September 2009. Eid celebrated to mark the end of the month of Ramadan.

Eid is a day of celebrating victory, a day of harvest, a day of forgiveness, reconciliations and a day of peace. Eid, which means "festivity" in Arabic and Fitr means ''breaking'' in English, signifies the festivity of ending the month of fasting.

Thousands of people from all over the districts gathered in the mosques early morning today attend Eid prayers. Immediately after the namaaz, people were seen exchanging the festival greetings, ‘Eid Mubarak’, by embracing one another and shaking hands. Muslim brethren visit each other''s homes to exchange pleasantries, to show their mutual affection and share happiness.

Eid is a joyous occasion, which is a time for friendship, socialization and good wishes. People from other community join in the celebrations and greet their Muslim friends on Eid.
