29 September 2009

The members of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee protested in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office, against Mangalore City Corporation’s decision, supplying water to Nagarjuna Power Project.

Vijay Kumar Shetty, Former MLA Surathkal, addressing the gathering said, BJP administration in City Corporation had decided to give water to Nagarjuna, which is not acceptable by city people.

Water scarcity problem already exists in Mangalore City Corporation area. People here find it difficult to get adequate water for their daily use. Above this MCC is decided to provide water to Nagarrjuna Project; this is clear sign of doing injustice to the citizens, he expressed his concern.

Nagarjuna power project need huge quantity of water supply, which is highly impossible for MCC. During rainy season it self MCC is facing the problems in water supply. None of the water sheds (Dam) belonging to MCC has the capacity of storing water for whole year. If the publics have to be far from the shortage of water, they have to oppose MCC, he said.

Members of DKDCC handover the memorandum to District Commissioner, asking for strict action, towards the decision of MCC.
